DANCE CURRICULUM

 

PRE-SCHOOL LEVEL I (must turn 3 years by Dec 1):    One hour class consisting of the basics in pre-ballet, tap and tumbling.  Children will learn creative movement, coordination and rhythmic skills through the use of music, games, and props.

PRE-SCHOOL LEVEL 2 (must turn 4 years by Dec. 1):    One hour class consisting of the continuation of skills development from Preschool Level I above.  Children will begin basic tap barre skills.

KINDERGARTEN COMBINATION CLASS (must turn 5 years by Dec 1):    One hour class consisting of 1/2 hour ballet and 1/2 hour tap.  Children will learn ballet and tap barres, progressive movements and dance combinations.  Children will perform two routines in our dance concerts.

1ST/2ND GRADE COMBINATION CLASS (must turn 6 years by Dec. 1):    One hour class consisting of 1/2 hour ballet and 1/2 hour jazz.  Children will learn barre and centre ballet techniques, as well as progressive movements.  This will be the dancer's first introduction to jazz, including warm-up, progressive movements and dance combinations.

TRIPLE CLASS COMBO (7-9 years old):    One hour and a half class consisting of ballet, tap, and jazz.  This class is perfect for the beginner dancer to familiarize and learn basic technique and movement.

BALLET (7 years old and up):     One hour class consisting of a graded system of barre,centre, and progressive  techniques in the Russian, French and Italian methods.

TAP (6 years old and up):    One hour class consisting of a graded system of barre, centre and progressive techniques with an emphasis on speed, clarity of sound, and rhythm.

JAZZ (7 years old and up):    One hour class consisting of warm-ups, strength and stretch exercises, progressive combinations across the floor, and centre combinations.

LYRICAL (7 years old and up):     One hour class consisting of warm-ups, progressions, and expressive and interpretive dance movements.

HIP HOP (7 years old and up):    One hour class consisting of street jazz with an emphasis on funk and isolation movements.  Students are required to also be enrolled in a jazz class.

 

NOTE:    Children are placed in class according to age and proficiency which is determined by the dance director only.
